Sony’s all-but-confirmed mid-generational hardware upgrade – reportedly codenamed PlayStation 4.5, PS4K and/or NEO – will hit the market in September of this year, according to a French multimedia distributor.
That places Sony’s new console just ahead of PlayStation VR, which is due to make its bow at some point in October, and given that much of the PlayStation 4.5’s rumored specs allow for a smoother virtual reality experience – even negating the device’s processing box – it certainly makes a lot of sense.
A quote from Innelec Multimedia’s latest financial call slates PlayStation 4.5 for a debut before the end of the company’s fiscal year – i.e. September 30.
Here’s an extract:
“The 2016/2017 current year should be marked for the video game world by the arrival, in the first half of our fiscal year, an evolution of the Sony PS4 PS4 console with the Neo 4K with new features and that the placing on the market in October 2016 virtual reality helmet Sony VR.”
Unconfirmed though it may be, today’s report does align with previous suggestions that PlayStation 4.5 would be out in the wild in time for PSVR’s launch.
Come September, PlayStation fans could be welcoming “the evolution of the Sony PS4 console Neo 4K.” But are you planning on upgrading to the publisher’s alleged PlayStation 4.5? Let us know by dropping a comment below.
