The next Global Mission for Pokémon Sun and Moon has been announced, and it’s going to utilize the games’ new Island Scan feature. Unlocked once players earn 100 points from scanning QR codes, Island Scan makes available a hugely desirable feature for a Pokémon game: namely, the ability to find and catch pocket monsters that aren’t available on the regional Pokédex.
Global Missions are also a new feature in Pokémon Sun and Moon, allowing players from all around the world to participate in a truly massive multiplayer experience. The first mission, which took place between Nov. 29 and Dec. 12, tasked players with catching 100 million Pokémon — and ended with players falling far short of that goal, with the final result only amounting to 16.5 million. Perhaps because of that, the bar’s been set a bit lower this time around; now, players will only have to reach 1 million creatures caught or defeated, with the catch that only ones found through the Island Scan feature will be counted.
If you want to participate in this Global Mission, be sure you’ve connected your game to Pokémon Global Link and have Island Scan unlocked before proceeding; then, head to the game’s Festival Plaza area and speak to the woman at the right-hand table in the Castle. From there, all you need to do is download the mission and start going after as many Pokémon as you can.
