Woaaa, dude! Somehow I must have missed this until now. Flying Pokémon in Pokémon X and Pokémon Y will actually battle hundreds of feet above the ground and engage in epic air matches? That’s awesome! That much and more was shown in a recent Japanese trailer for the games, which have me as breathlessly eager as I can ever really imagine being for a new release. Scratch that – I did get pretty darn excited for Disney’s Aladdin on the SNES. But this is a close second.
Outside of my perhaps late-to-the-party realization, the trailer shows off a new creature who up to this point had not been seen in-game; a tree Pokémon called Aurotto. Whether this guy has any relation to Sudowoodo is still up in the air, but I’m crossing my fingers that Aurotto is his fearsome evolved form. At the very least they should be distant cousins or something.
Be sure to check out the trailer below, and while you’re at it let us know what what your most anticipated features of Pokemon X and Pokemon Y are. Are you amped to feed your Pokémon pastries and awkwardly prod them with your stylus via Pokémon Amie? Or is it the new 3D battle system that gets you fired up?
For me, more exciting than any specific feature is the uncomplicated premise of an incoming new Pokémon game in the first place. The series has been so consistent throughout my lifetime (I’ve been playing since elementary school, after all), and has been like a gaming rock that is always there. I grab the new version, set out on my journey, EV and IV train my monsters like a man possessed, then finally lose interest after 200 hours… only to do it all again two years later. It’s beautiful, in a way.
Pokémon X and Pokémon Y hit the US (and everywhere) this October. Let the summer end already!
