Valve’s mind boggling puzzle game has managed to (unsurprisingly) sail to the top of the UK all platform charts this week, giving a strong performance in its opening week. Portal 2 has been getting extremely respectable review scores across the board, averaging out as the highest rated game of 2011 thus far. If you haven’t played the first game (bundled in as an experiment in the Orange Box) you needn’t feel discouraged. Valve have done a fine job of transitioning between the two in a more than palatable manner, slowly introducing and expanding the premise.

Looking at the rest of the chart, Black Ops makes a sudden comeback this week, leaping up from the tail end of the charts straight into third place. This is more than likely to be related to the rapidly approaching ‘Escalation’ DLC and several new console bundles.  Crysis 2 is still maintaining a very impressive position considering it has been out for quite some time now, and FIFA 11 continues to prove that the Brits truly adore their sport.

The full top ten for the week ending April the 23rd (Courtesy of CVG) reads like this:

  1. Portal 2 (EA)
  2. Mortal Kombat (Warner)
  3. Call of Duty: Black Ops (Activision)
  4. Zumba Fitness (505 Games)
  5. Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars (LucasArts)
  6. Operation Flashpoint: Red River (Codemasters)
  7. FIFA 11 (EA Sports)
  8. Crysis 2 (EA)
  9. Wii Fit Plus (Nintendo)
  10. Homefront (THQ)
