Ubisoft’s upcoming platformer Rayman Legends finally has a concrete release date for both North America and Europe, after an earlier delay that caused it to skip its original Wii U-only February release. Now also coming to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, publisher Ubisoft has announced that North American gamers can expect to get their hands on the game September 3, while Europeans will get it a little earlier on August 30.
In addition, today marks the launch of the Rayman Legends Online Challenge App, a free, downloadable piece of software exclusively on the Wii U eShop. Players who download the app will be able to play a series of unique score and time-based challenges, both on a weekly and daily basis. These levels will include the Neverending Pit, the Land of the Livid Dead, the Infinite Tower, and Murfy’s Dungeon, the last of which will take advantage of the Wii U’s unique GamePad with touch and tilt-based controls.
Players can compete for the best scores via online leaderboards, and can compare themselves to anyone on their friend list who participates in a challenge. The app also includes the three levels from the original downloadable demo for Rayman Legends, and offers an experience level-like system known as their Awesomeness Level, which players can increase by doing well and winning cups for each challenge.
We will keep you updated on Rayman Legends as its release date approaches. In the meantime, take a look at promotional screenshots and a trailer detailing the Challenge App below.
