No Reconnect Feature Planned For Apex Legends, Says Respawn

Don't hold your breath for a reconnect feature to be added into Apex Legends anytime soon. That's according to developer Respawn.

This past weekend, you may have caught wind of Respawn’s Reddit check-in – either directly or indirectly – in which the creative team addressed many of the questions and concerns currently swirling around Apex Legends.

Servers, spammers and online leaks were all part of the conversation, while Respawn also took time to touch base on the sluggish load times that have been known to affect certain matches. Stomping out any remaining bugs is clearly a big priority for the studio, but they were also pressed about a potential new addition to Apex Legends – a reconnect feature enabling players to hop back into a game in the event of a timeout.

It would certainly mitigate the chances of an uneven player count, as it’s often the case that one team will struggle to cope once they lost a player to a dodgy connection. Alas, Respawn currently has no plans to implement the feature – at least not yet.

We’ve heard the suggestions from you folks asking for a reconnect to match feature. We are currently not pursuing this for a couple of reasons:

It opens a lot of risks for players to abuse it. We believe the resources needed to build, test, and release it are better spent focused on fixing stability issues so that the feature isn’t necessary.

You certainly can’t fault Respawn’s logic. Stability appears to be the #1 priority for Apex Legends, so why delegate resources to a feature that may do more harm than good? After all, allowing players to rejoin a previous match is a potential loophole that cheaters can exploit, and we all know that Apex has been prone to those who don’t play by the rules – particularly on PC, where 350,000 users have been banned.

More on Apex Legends as we near the launch of the long-rumored Battle Pass.
