Crytek has formally unveiled a follow-up to 2011’s post-apocalyptic shooter, Homefront. Entitled Homefront: The Revolution, the sequel will take place in a North Korea-occupied Philadelphia and will launch across PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
Taking the reins from THQ — the publisher behind the original game in 2011 — Homefront: The Revolution will be released through Deep Silver. Powered by Crytek’s in-house game engine, the game will drop you in the shoes of an unassuming citizen who, through guerrilla warfare and cunning tactics, must overthrow the opposing invaders.
“Set in Occupied Philadelphia in a nightmare near-future dystopia, Homefront: The Revolution casts the player as a civilian-turned-freedom-fighter who must rise up and lead the Resistance against a superior military force and ignite the Second American Revolution.”
In terms of gameplay, Homefront: The Revolution will introduce several open-world elements that will aim to distinguish it from just another linear shooter. Moreover, Crytek confirmed that game modes will also encompass a four player co-op, meaning you and three comrades can work together to liberate North America.
Though details are scare on the post-apocalyptic ground at this time, Deep Silver confirmed that Homefront: The Revolution will indeed launch on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC 2015. For now, though, you can glimpse the impressive level of fidelity in the trailer above, while a world premiere gameplay demo has been locked for E3 next week.
