Rockstar Games is a developer that typically dances to its own tune. You won’t see its name up in lights at E3, for instance, nor will you find many examples of studio announcements leaking ahead of time. Such a method of approach naturally keeps fans locked to the edge of their seats, and social media was sent into uproar earlier this week following the release of two fleeting teasers.
Confirming what many had already assumed to be a sure-thing, the latest update from the Rockstar Games Twitter account reveals that Red Dead Redemption 2 is indeed on the way. It’s been announced for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One (no mention of PC at this stage) and will arrive in the fall of 2017 with a “new multiplayer experience.” Curious to see the Western sequel in motion? Don’t fret; we also have word that the first teaser trailer will debut on Thursday, October 20.
“With Red Dead Redemption 2, the team is working hard to push forward our vision for interactive entertainment in a truly living world,” said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. “We hope to deliver players an epic experience that builds upon everything we’ve learned making games.”
Key art for RDR2 was also unveiled, offering a closer look at those seven silhouettes set against the Western sunset. Is that really John Marston at the center? If that’s the case, there’s every chance that those rumors suggesting Red Dead 2 is in fact a prequel could be bang on the money.
So, there you have it; after sending the Internet into a frenzy, Rockstar Games has confirmed that Red Dead Redemption 2 will march onto PlayStation 4 and Xbox One next fall. No word yet on a PC version, though considering its predecessor never made it onto the platform, don’t hold your breath.
Check back to We Got This Covered on Thursday, October 20 at 11am ET when we’ll have a full breakdown of the debut trailer.
