Two trailers for Capcom’s upcoming (best-selling game ever!) Resident Evil 6 made their way out of Gamescom this week, giving us a combined nine minutes of semi-new gameplay footage from both Leon and Jake’s campaigns.
The first video features the subway level from Leon Kennedy and Helena Harper’s campaign. This is not the first time that Capcom has released gameplay footage of this part of the game, however, this trailer appears to be from a different playthough than what was demoed back in July.
Capcom’s second trailer is all new, and features gameplay footage from Jake Muller and Sherry Birkin’s campaign. This video lasts almost four minutes, and centers around the pair being trapped in cabin while enemies climb in through the windows. If that sounds familiar, it’s because it is. We saw almost the exact same scenario play out first in Resident Evil 4 (when it felt new and awesome), and then again in Resident Evil 5 (when it felt old and tired).
As a long-time fan of the series, I’m hopeful that Resident Evil 6 will end up being the perfect mix of survival horror and action that Capcom is shooting for. Sadly, they are not doing a good job of demonstrating those aspects with trailers that feature Leon running through stages with the greatest of ease, and a “trapped in the cabin” section that we have already played through multiple times.
Check out the trailers down below, and let us know in the comments what you think. Will Resident Evil 6 give fans the Resident Evil that they have been longing for? Or, will it take an even bigger step away from the series’ survival horror roots?
