Amid reports of sluggish match starts in Apex Legends, developer Respawn has issued a response to assure fans that everything is being done.

Such is the meteoric success of Apex Legends that at times it feels like Respawn is still adjusting to the demand.

That’s not to say the developer is struggling – far from it, in fact – but after amassing close to 50 million players in just five weeks it’s only natural that Apex is still trying to find its groove and iron out any remaining kinks.

Case in point: sluggish match starts. As reported by a number of Reddit users (h/t ComicBook.com), there have been instances when Apex Legends begins a new game in slow-motion, causing confusion and a fair amount of frustration among its core supporters.

Respawn, to their credit, are aware of the situation, though there’s really not much they can do at this point.

“We’ve seen these reports and are narrowing down causes and making improvements. If this could be fixed by spending money on faster/more servers we would do it, but, unfortunately, there is no silver bullet on this one. We’re just rolling up our sleeves and digging in. We’ll keep you updated on any progress we make.”

While many have called on Respawn to invest in more (or perhaps faster) servers, there’s simply no quick fix for those sluggish match starts. It’s a pity, of course, particularly when you consider that a typical Apex Legends match whizzes by at breakneck speed, but so long as Respawn continues to ban players for cheating, we can deal with slow-motion openings.

There are also big questions lingering over the game’s economy, after a number of players raised concerns regarding the Apex Legends cosmetic items and their lofty price tags – $18, in some cases. But how much is too much? We’ll leave that one to you.
