Another round of leaks involving Apex Legends surfaced earlier today, showing us unreleased concept art for what looked like several new characters coming to the popular battle royale title.
The unintended spillage was discovered by Twitter user Shrugtal, who shared a number of screenshots depicting faces we’ve yet to see show up in the game. Given the high calibre of artistic talent on display, folks immediately thought they were genuine, and well they may very well be, Respawn has been quick to caution fans not to believe everything they see.
Issuing a statement earlier today, the developer acknowledged all of the data-mined leaks that have surfaced for Apex Legends lately and warned us that unless it comes directly from them, take any new information with a grain of salt.
“There’s lots of stuff that has been datamined from Apex since launch and is swirling around the Internet. We know this stuff is fun to dig up and speculate about, but you should not treat any of that info as a source of truth.
There’s stuff in there that is very old, or things we’ve tried in the past and cut. Remember, our design process is to prototype and play lots of ideas, and some of it may be things we’re still building for Apex Legends.
Finding this stuff by no means confirms that it’ll ever come out. At best you should treat any posts about this as a rumor and the real info will come from us when we’re ready to show off what’s coming next.”
This makes plenty of sense. After all, we’ve seen a ton of instances in the past where data-miners have turned up exciting goodies only to never actually have them appear in the game in question. Like Respawn says, a lot of this stuff may have been cut and we shouldn’t expect to see it all materialize.
So, that puts a bit of a damper on things then, especially because we’ve seen so much discovered via data-mining over the past few weeks, but regardless of what makes it into Apex Legends and what doesn’t, this is still a very exciting time to be a fan. The über-popular Titanfall spinoff has come a long way since it launched in early February, considering it’s already amassed a userbase of 50 million strong, and with Season 1 set to get underway this month, the best is still yet to come.
