In accordance with early rumors, Square Enix has announced that Rise of the Tomb Raider, the acclaimed action-adventure sequel developed by Crystal Dynamics, will make its way onto PlayStation 4 on October 11.
Word comes by way of PlayStation Blog, confirming that the PS4 port will come packing “a completely new story chapter entitled Blood Ties,” which can also be experienced in virtual reality.
There’s also mention of new co-op Endurance gameplay, all of Rise‘s previously released expansions – Cold Darkness Awakened and Baba Yaga: The Temple of the Witch included – along with additional weapons and outfits for Lara Croft.
Speaking to PS Blog, Franchise Creative Director Noah Hughes revealed that the aforementioned Blood Ties chapter will welcome players to Croft Manor, a residency steeped in memories and the rich history of the Croft name. It’s part of Square’s way of ushering in Tomb Raider‘s 20th anniversary, and PS4 owners will even be allowed to play through the campaign using the original, low-poly Lara.
To celebrate Tomb Raider releases through the years, you can outfit Lara with a re-envisioned version of the cold-weather outfit and the Hailstorm pistol that was featured in Tomb Raider III. In addition, a special card pack will allow you to replay the main story with five classic Lara models. You won’t believe your eyes when you see the original low-poly Lara model in glorious high fidelity Rise of the Tomb Raider cutscenes.
Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration is expected to arrive for those on PlayStation 4 come October 11.
