During today’s announcement of Halo 5: Guardians, 343 Industries general manager Bonnie Ross alluded to the idea that another entry in Microsoft’s flagship franchise could be released this year. If a recent rumor is to be believed, though, it won’t so much be a new game, as much as it would be a series of old games with fresh paint jobs.
A report coming out of Engadget is claiming that Microsoft will be releasing Halo: The Master Chief Collection for the Xbox One this fall. The set would compile the four main titles in the franchise, Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3 and Halo 4, in order to ensure that the Master Chief remains fresh in gamers minds. Unfortunately, this would most likely lead to popular series spin-offs Halo 3: ODST and Halo: Reach being excluded from the set.
Additional details on the set remain are unclear at this time, but we do know that Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary developer Saber Interactive is currently working on an unannounced Xbox One project, so there’s a pretty good chance that they are involved with Halo: The Master Chief Collection.
It’s important to remember that this is not the first time news of Microsoft gearing up to release ports of the Halo franchise for the Xbox One has popped up, as back in January, a NeoGaf user posted a similar rumor. At this point, I think it would be more of a shock if the company didn’t have some sort of Halo title coming out this year, whether it be this set or just Halo 2: Anniversary Edition.
We will be sure to keep you updated on any news regarding Halo: The Master Chief Collection if it becomes available. For now though, tell us, would you be interested in a set like the one being described here? It would tide us over nicely until Halo 5, wouldn’t it?
