Earlier today, Volition teased a new entry in its hilarious Saints Row franchise using a picture of a Ouija board. Now, thanks to a previously-scheduled PAX Prime panel, we know exactly what the developer was hinting at when it released the otherworldly image.
The Saints are going to Hell in their next outing, an expansion that is jokingly titled, Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell. It will be joined by a remastered PS4/Xbox One version of Saints Row IV called Saints Row IV: Re-Elected. Buying the new version will set you back $30, while buying it in a bundle with Gat Out of Hell will run you $50. Either way, you’ll get access to all of the game’s previously-released DLC.
At the panel — which was hosted by Kinzie Kensington voice actress Natalie Lander — it was announced that Gat Out of Hell will send its titular gang leader, Johnny Gat, to Hell alongside Kinzie herself. The two will be transported to the sweltering underworld by some sort of magical Ouija board, resulting in them having to do battle with demons and “prominent historical figures.” The end goal will, of course, be a battle with Satan himself.
This rendition of Hell will apparently be half the size of Saints Row IV’s city of Steelport, and will gift players with the power of flight. Furthermore, co-op has been confirmed, in addition to a musical number.
A standalone expansion that will not require a copy of Saints Row IV, Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell will be released on January 27, 2015, for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows PC. It will retail for $19.99, and will offer players unique weapons like the Arm Chairmageddon, Energy Caster, Locust Gun and some sort of frog-shooting device.
