Nudity, black holes, nut-punching, superpowers, guns and aliens – Saints Row IV seemingly has it all in spades.
Sure, the above list may seem a bit over-the-top, but it’s gaming’s marquee sandbox satire series that we’re talking about. Its formula always calls for three parts of over-the-top shenanigans for every one part of seriousness. Therein lies its greatness.
However, through the release of a brand new trailer this calendar day, developer Volition Inc. hoped to make one thing clear: For all of its craziness, Saints Row IV won’t lack seriousness within its outlandish narrative. Granted, what’s included will be presented in much more of a B-movie sense than what you’d expect from something like The West Wing. Then again, this is a franchise that made us spray people with ooze from a septic truck several years back. Expecting anything above a dramedy from its fourth instalment would be a mistake.
Still, there will be seriousness. In fact, there’s enough there that the team was able to create a mock theatrical trailer, which introduces the game’s gun-toting cast of criminal badasses as if they were Hollywood’s leading men and women. Add in a few f-words and other choice elements and you have the War for Humanity trailer, which stars the game’s playable hero, who just so happens to be the President of the United States, and his cronies.
Enjoy what’s below, but please note that it’s not safe for work.
Saints Row IV will bring its unique blend of cheese and carnage to the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on August 20.
