Developer Yacht Club Games has unearthed the first trailer for Shovel Knight: Specter Of Torment, a villainous prequel story set in the Shovel Knight universe.
Featuring the Order of No Quarter, an evil group of adversaries that fights against Shovel Knight in the original platformer, Specter Of Torment looks to boast the crisp gameplay and retro 8-bit aesthetic that ensured the core game was such a runaway success. It’s been slated for launch in spring 2017, and will herald “new areas, new music, new enemies, new objects, new boss fights, new weapons, new armors, and way, way more than ever before,” according to Yacht Club. Frankly, that’s a whole lot of new stuff.
The reveal of Specter of Torment was sandwiched into a fairly crammed showcase at this evening’s The Game Awards 2016, which brought forth new looks at The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Arkane’s 2017 shooter Prey and Death Stranding, the mysterious sci-fi title hailing from Hideo Kojima and the team at Kojima Productions. As if the inclusion of Norman Reedus wasn’t enough, it’ll also feature Guillermo del Toro and Rogue One star Mads Mikkelsen.
Yacht Club Games has earmarked Shovel Knight: Specter Of Torment for release in 2017. We’ll keep you updated if and when the studio nails down an official date, not to mention which platforms we can expect the studio’s new release to reach.
