Has there ever been a better time to be a Pokemon fan? No. Not when Nintendo seems hellbent on handing out one-of-a-kind mythical ‘Mons like candy to everyone still aiming to catch ’em all.
As part of the 20th anniversary celebrations of the overwhelmingly addictive series, The Pokemon Company and Nintendo are handing out legendary and mythical Pocket Monsters from the past and present for every month of 2016 as a thank you to fans of the series. So far, we’ve been gifted the likes of Mew, Celebi, Hoopa and the three Regis as part of the promotion, and up next are the three legendary birds of Kanto.
Sign up to the official Pokemon Trainer Club newsletter between now and April 22, and in May, you’ll receive codes to download Zapdos, Articuno and Moltres to your copy of Pokemon Omega Ruby, Alpha Sapphire, X or Y. But that’s not quite everything – these three versions of the regal birds will come with their hidden abilities, which aren’t available through normal play.
See below for the details of each.
Articuno
Snow Cloak – Increases evasion in battle in hail weather, and decreases the wild Pokemon encounter rate in snowing areas.
Zapdos
Static – Chance of paralysing a Pokemon that makes physical contact with it, and also increases the chance of encountering Electric-type Pokémon in the field as long as it is in your first party slot.
Moltres
Flame Body – Provides a chance that any Pokemon physically attacking Moltres will be burned. Also reduces the time required to hatch Pokemon eggs.
You can sign up to the newsletter by heading over to the official Pokemon website. Also, don’t forget that Jirachi is currently available to download as a Mystery Gift for all players. For those of you in the UK, entering the code HOOPA2016 into the serial code option for any of the aforementioned games will net you the mythical Pokemon Hoopa.
