If you, like us, are still mourning the cancellation of Hideo Kojima and Guillermo Del Toro’s Silent Hills, a Change.org petition calling for the creative pair to return to the ill-fated project may offer some solace.

At the time of writing, the passionate battle cry has accumulated over 80,000 signatures, and though it’s unlikely that the online rally will impact Konami’s seemingly steadfast stance on the canned horror game, the heartfelt poll is admirable nonetheless.

Spearheaded by user Yauheni, the open letter addresses Kojima and del Toro directly with one earnest request: to return to Silent Hills and deliver on what was once promised.

Dear Hideo and Guillermo,

Hearing the cancellation of one of the most anticipated horror games is about the most heartbreaking thing horror fans had to swallow this year. Since the first sight of the P.T Demo it was instant love, and it burned into the minds of everyone that this had to release at some point.

News of the title’s cancellation first began seeping out into the ether early last week, with Konami’s decision to pull P.T. from the PlayStation Store acting as the canary in the coal mine. Released unceremoniously in August of last year, the playable teaser proved to be a stroke of genius from the company, and still stands as one of the most impressive horror games in recent memory.

Nevertheless, now that the light at the end of the tunnel has essentially been extinguished, Kojima, del Toro and The Walking Dead‘s Norman Reedus have opted to move onto projects anew. Konami may be committed to working on the franchise moving forward, but that once-intoxicating Silent Hills concept is all but dead. Unless this Change.org petition can pull off the 11th hour revival, that is.
