Having revealed almost every detail about the PlayStation 4 at E3 last June, the only major missing piece to Sony’s next generation puzzle has been that none of us know exactly when we will be able to buy the damn thing. Not wanting to leave us hanging much longer, Sony quietly announced this past week that they will fully pull back the curtain at Gamescom 2013 by revealing their launch plans for the PS4.
The platform holder slipped the confirmation into a blurb on the UK PlayStation website, saying:
“We’ll kick off the show at 18:00 BST on 20 August 2013 with a briefing to media on our release plans for PlayStation 4, as well as updates on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita.”
So far, Sony has only confirmed that the PlayStation 4 will launch in time for the Holiday 2013 shopping season. Hopefully, next week’s Gamescom media briefing (which will beĀ live streamed) will fully detail when the next-gen console will launch and, more importantly, which markets will be getting it this year.
Recent rumors state that the PlayStation 4 could be headed for a release as early as this October — which, if true, would certainly make things interesting for the Xbox One’s limited November launch plans — but there is nothing solid to back up that talk at this point.
We will keep an eye on Sony’s Gamescom press conference next week and let you know as soon as they announce the PlayStation 4‘s official launch plans.
