The force will be with the PlayStation 4 this winter, as Sony has revealed a limited edition Darth Vader variation of the console. Set for release on November 17th alongside Star Wars: Battlefront, the system will soon be available for pre-order, although no pricing details have been revealed.
Sporting an image of Vader’s iconic helmet and a repeated Star Wars logo across its top, this rather smart-looking (500gb) PlayStation 4 will come bundled with a special DualShock 4 controller and either Star Wars: Battlefront‘s Deluxe Edition or Disney Infinity 3.0, as well as some remastered “classics.” What’s important to note here is that, while the Battlefront bundle will be available at different retailers, the Disney Infinity one will be exclusive to Walmart, and will come with the game’s PlayStation-exclusive Star Wars version, which includes the base Disney Infinity 3.0 experience, alongside its Rise of the Empire Play Set and a Boba Fett figure.
The aforementioned controller — which seems to be rather polarizing amongst online commenters — is designed to look like Vader’s chest panel. As such, it sports a crimson red D-pad, white joysticks, red and blue shoulder buttons and specially coloured (white or red) face buttons. That, as well as a repeated Star Wars logo across its touchpad.
This news comes to us from Disney’s D23 expo, where Sony’s Adam Boyes also revealed that four “classic” Star Wars games are heading to PSN, complete with enhanced visuals and trophy support. The list includes 1992’s fantastic Super Star Wars and 2001’s podracing sequel, Star Wars Racer Revenge, as well as Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter and Star Wars: Bounty Hunter. Now, there’s no denying that Super Star Wars and its sequels are bonafide classics, but whether the other three are is up for debate. Granted, it’s a cool idea nonetheless.
Of course, as previously-revealed, Star Wars: Battlefront will also be sold within a regular PS4 bundle that contains the basic, jet black console and its matching DualShock 4, as well as the four classic Star Wars games. It’s expected to be the cheaper option of the two.
Take a moment to tell us what you think about this newly-revealed Darth Vader PlayStation 4, plus its Star Wars: Battlefront and Disney Infinity 3.0 bundles. Does the look of the system entice you to double-dip on a new PS4, or purchase one for the first time? What about the controller? That’s the one I’m not so sure about.
