Almost two years ago, we saw the release of South Park: Let’s Go Tower Defense Play! In my personal opinion, it was an underrated game that was at its most fun when one played with three friends. Not only that, but it was one of the most hilarious games available on XBOX Live Arcade, as you built defenses to stop ginger kids, hippies and other evil-doers from attacking your town.
South Park fans can now rejoice because there’s news that another game based on the ever-popular Comedy Central show is in the works. It’s set to be an exclusive to the XBOX 360 console, as there is currently one more game owed on an exclusivity deal that was signed between Microsoft and 345 Games – the newly minted games studio under the television station’s wing.
Speaking with Joystiq, 345 Games creative director Prithvi Virasinghe had this to say:
“Right now, South Park is actually in a first-party deal with Microsoft Studios, who published the first game, and they’re doing a second game as well,” he explained. “After that, that first-party exclusivity window expires, and we get a shot of taking that back.”
It’s unknown when the game will be released, as the studio is currently considering working on a project with Stephen Colbert first. He’s been lobbying for a video game based on himself or his comic book alter-ego, Tek Jansen, who happens to be a space agent who fights aliens, then saves and seduces every woman in the story…even the villains.
Both projects sound very interesting and I’d be happy to be able to play either one. Though I must admit that the South Park project is the one I hope goes into full production first, as I’ve enjoyed all of the games based on the show that I’ve played. Since they likely won’t go the tower defense route again, I’m hoping the new one will be a shooter, like the first Nintendo 64, PSX and PC release from Acclaim.
