If there’s one thing the eighth generation of consoles will forever be known for, it’s delays. Indeed, news of developers and publishers reshuffling release dates is often viewed as bittersweet; on the one hand, you have those disappointed that their wait for ‘game X’ has been extended. The other, much more rational view to the argument essentially stems from the famous Shigeru Miyamoto quote stating: “A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad.”
Adhering to that age-old adage, Ubisoft has formally announced plans to postpone South Park: The Fractured But Whole into 2017. Previously scheduled for an arrival in early December, which suddenly became much more crowded thanks to the recent FFXV and Last Guardian delays, the riotous sequel will now touch down for PS4, Xbox One and PC in Q1, 2017 – that is, sometime before March 31, 2017.
Per Ubisoft:
South Park: The Fractured But Whole will now launch on Xbox One, Playstation 4 and PC, calendar Q1 2017. The development team wants to make sure the game experience meets the high expectations of fans and the additional time will help them achieve this goal.
One quick glance at Ubisoft’s portfolio will tell you that For Honor and Ghost Recon Wildlands are both on course for a premiere early next year – February 14 and March 7, respectively – indicating that The Fractured But Whole could slot into a late January release. It’s a typically slack period of the year, of course, but Techland’s Dying Light thrived in that very window back in 2015. Will South Park: The Fractured But Whole do the same?
