Ubisoft announced today that they have delayed South Park: The Stick of Truth from its previous mid-December release date, and will now launch the long-overdue title on March 4th, 2014.

Speaking on the Ubiblog, Ubisoft North America’s president Laurent Detoc and South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker commented on the latest delay, saying:

“Within three weeks after acquiring the game, we sadly realized we had to turn this thing upside down if we hoped to deliver the experience everybody wanted,” says Ubisoft North America’s president Laurent Detoc. “It’s been such a major overhaul to get to the point where we are that we couldn’t let it go, even if that meant missing December.”

“We always wanted the game to feel like you’re actually in an episode of South Park,” say Matt Stone and Trey Parker. “Getting the game up to the crappy standards of the show has been a real challenge and we’re excited to say it’s taken way longer than we thought it would.”

Originally announced way back in 2011, South Park: The Stick of Truth has had quite the journey in its quest to be released on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The now-bankrupt video game publisher THQ originally planned to launch the title in the second half of 2012, but were later forced to push it back to a vague “sometime after March 2013” release. Ubisoft got involved in the mess after THQ went belly-up in January 2013, and the December 10th launch date was slapped on the title just last month. Today’s news means Stick of Truth will finally see the light of day just shy of two years after its original release window.

Hopefully, Ubisoft has finally nailed down the last street date for South Park: The Stick of Truth. We will keep an eye out for any updates, just in case they haven’t, and let you know as soon as anything else is announced.
