At long last, Rocksteady has unveiled a first look at Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, which will be their long-anticipated sequel to 2015’s Arkham Knight.
The story takes place five years after the events of that game, putting players in the shoes of Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, King Shark, and Deadshot. As with many other Suicide Squad stories, this gang of misfits will be running up against a group of villains even more sinister than they, though in this particular case, those enemies happen to be brainwashed members of the Justice League.
After an invasion of Earth by Brainiac, the World’s Finest rush to defend Metropolis, only to fall into the supervillain’s mental trap and become slaves of his will. In this gameplay demo, Barry Allen gives the Suicide Squad a challenge in the form of Brainiac’s new machinations, but at the end of it, we learn that Wonder Woman remains unaffected by this enthrallment.
As for the gameplay mechanics themselves, you’ll be in for a third-person shooter that combines elements of each character’s individual abilities to create a seamless experience across the open-world space. You can play the game solo and switch between the characters at will, or bring your friends into a co-op lobby.
Kill the Justice League marks Kevin Conroy‘s final voice acting performance as Batman after the actor’s tragic passing in Nov. 2022. So, for a lot of DC fans, Rocksteady’s new creation will serve as a love letter to the Justice League ensemble in more ways than one.
The game is set for release on May 26 across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
