After what feels like hundreds of leaks, Activision has officially debuted the first trailer for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants In Manhattan.
Based off an original story penned by TMNT author Tom Waltz, Mutants In Manhattan looks to be another showcase for the acclaimed developer. In the debut trailer, we see Donatello, Leonardo, Raphael and Michelangelo squaring off against the grunts of Shredder’s Foot Clan, as well as more powerful foes like Armaggon, Bebop and Rocksteady.
Similar to two other recent PlatinumGames developed titles, The Legend of Korra and Transformers: Devastation, the game will sport a stylized cel-shaded look. The colorful visuals will work in tandem with a gritty take on the popular franchise that is more in line with the comic book series, rather than the Nickelodeon TV series and film franchise.
While the fact that PlatinumGames is working on the title should make any action fan happy, the more exciting development regarding Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan is the fact that it will feature four player online co-op. If there was ever a franchise that always should include four player co-op, it’s TMNT. What’s the point of taking it to Shredder if you can’t have the entire squad by your side?
It hasn’t been too long since the last TMNT based videogame (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Danger of the Ooze in 2014), but it has been awhile since the last good game based around the franchise was released. The first title based around the 2003 reboot wasn’t bad, but you may have to go all the way back to Turtles in Time for a truly great experience. PlatinumGames certainly has the skills to craft a quality game based around the property, though, as their take on the Transformers franchise last year was very impressive.
Currently slated to release for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows PC, expect Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants In Manhattan to launch this summer.
