A GameStop listing spotted by Internet sleuth Wario64 suggests Telltale’s Guardians of the Galaxy game will premiere in April, right in time to tie-in with James Gunn’s galactic sequel, which will be slamming into theaters on May 5, 2017.
The product listing goes on to claim that the Season Pass Disc will debut across PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on April 25. Neither Telltale nor Marvel has announced anything official at the time of writing, but the model of launching the pilot episode digitally, followed by a comprehensive retail release some weeks later, is something that we’ve seen Telltale execute just recently with The Walking Dead: A New Frontier.
Comprised of five episodes in total – for the inaugural season, at least – Telltale’s Guardians of the Galaxy features a “brand new story of the universe’s unlikeliest heroes,” according to GameStop’s official production description, which reads as so:
“Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series delivers a brand new story of the universe’s unlikeliest heroes, the rag-tag band of outlaws who go by the names Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Groot. In the wake of an epic battle, the Guardians discover an artifact of unspeakable power. Each of the Guardians has a reason to desire this relic, as does a ruthless enemy who is the last of her kind, and who will stop at nothing to tear it from their hands. From Earth to the Milano to Knowhere and beyond, and set to the beat of awesome music, this five-part episodic series puts you in the rocket-powered boots of Star-Lord in an original Guardians adventure, told in the unique and award-winning Telltale style, where your decisions and actions will drive the path of the story you experience.”
If GameStop’s listing is anything to go by, the episodic Guardians of the Galaxy series should be with us in April, lending you plenty of time to experience Telltale’s particular rendition of Star-Lord and the gang before Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 swings into theaters on May 5.
