The latest trailer for Guerrilla Games’ upcoming action RPG Horizon Zero Dawn is here, introducing yet another threat that players will have to face head-on in the post-apocalyptic world. As if having to live in the shadow of gargantuan, dinosaur-shaped robots didn’t sound threatening enough in day-to-day life, it appears as if protagonist Aloy will have other humans vying for her blood during her travels. Not only that but the mystery “masked warriors” have the uncanny ability to control the machines to some extent, able to utilize their immense power to carry out, what we suspect, will be some sort of nefarious scheme to take over the planet.
Of course, the motives behind each of Horizon Zero Dawn‘s colorful cast of characters are unknown to anyone but Guerilla itself, but it’s always fun to speculate, isn’t it?
“To date, Horizon’s trailers have offered glimpses of the game’s majestic post-post-apocalyptic world and awe-inspiring machines. There’s a lot we’ve yet to show, but we’re starting the New Year with a big new trailer that focuses on yet another threat for Aloy to face,” says the post over on Sony’s PlayStation Blog, further teasing that something strange is afoot. “Who are these masked warriors, and what is the source of their power over the machines? Who will rally to Aloy’s side on the field of battle? The answers to these and other questions will be revealed on 1st March, 2017.”
Horizon Zero Dawn‘s clash of technology and natural beauty has been one of the game’s major talking points ever since its reveal back at Sony’s E3 presentation in 2015, with numerous theories having done the rounds since. Guerilla has remained tight-lipped in regards to story details, however, having dropped tiny morsels of information in the past as it sees fit.
We’ll discover the truth come February 28 (March 1 in Europe), when Horizon Zero Dawn launches exclusively for PlayStation 4.
