Speaking to Digital Spy, Terminal Reality producer Glenn Gamble revealed that their upcoming survival first-person-shooter The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct is being ported to the Wii U, and will launch alongside the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC versions of the game on March 29 in Europe (a North American release date was not revealed).
Gamble stated that the Wii U port will have the same content as the other versions, but he noted that it has been “augmented” to take advantage of the console’s unique Gamepad controller.
“We were over halfway through the project when the Wii U thing started coming about. We didn’t want to change the game, because the game had already been established, so we tried to say, ‘What can we augment with the Wii U version?'”
“That’s where it’s basically a more elegant inventory management system. With the Wii U you have access to your backpack at all times, so you can tap what weapons you want, you can drop stuff. It’s a lot more streamlined.”
During the interview the producer also confirmed that the gameplay trailer for The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct that released last week was in fact “fan-made” and used footage form an older build of the game. While this news doesn’t alleviate all of our fears, it does give us some hope that the final product will not feature shiny-faced zombies with below-undead-average artificial intelligence and Ken-doll hair.
With that said, it is still very puzzling as to why Activision and Terminal Reality decided to use a fan-made video that utilized old footage to give the public their first taste of the title’s gameplay. At the very least, I would have expected them to use video that avoided showcasing all that screen tearing.
