Activision released the first gameplay footage for Terminal Reality’s upcoming survival shooter based on the popular AMC TV series, The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct, revealing several very shiny zombies with plastic Ken doll hair.
There is no doubt that this first look at the upcoming game raises a few warning flags (specifically the character models don’t look so hot and the AI seems pretty dumb, even by the already low standards set by the video game undead), however, don’t give up all hope on the game just yet. This footage is not new — it was first shown in bits and pieces during IGN’s announcement video — and it really amounts to little more than an early tech demo of the title. Hopefully the final product ends up better than what we are seeing here.
With that in mind, this trailer should give you a rough idea of what Terminal Reality is going for with the first-person stealth gameplay in The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct. The footage shows Daryl Dixon, or perhaps his brother Merle, navigating through the zombie-filled streets of a Georgia town on their way to Atlanta. It clearly looks like the best option is to avoid combat when possible by sneaking/running past the undead, and to use knife attacks to the back of their shiny heads for quick and silent kills.
Activision has not yet set a release date for The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct, however, it is expected to launch sometime this year for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. As soon we get more details about the ucpoming game, and hopefully better assets, we will let you know.
In the meantime, make sure to check out the first gameplay trailer below and let us know what you think of Terminal Reality’s take on The Walking Dead franchise in the comment section.
