The seventh and eighth free pieces of DLC for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be available later this week for PS4, Xbox One and PC. This time around, fans will get access to a new quest – Fool’s Gold – and the addition of a brand new Gwent deck with which to duel their opponents with.
The presence of a pig and the quest name suggest that Fool’s Gold might be taking a comedic approach to storytelling this time around as opposed to the seriousness of previous DLC quest: Missing Miners. The Gwent deck, on the other hand, is obviously the smaller offering of the two, but the card game is no flimsy mechanic tacked on to extend play time. Like all good tabletop games, it’s absurdly addictive.
CD Projekt Red has done a solid job so far of delivering on the promise of 16 free slices of DLC, and the model is a great stop-gap in between the base game and the announced expansions that are expected at the end of 2015 and early 2016, respectively. It certainly wouldn’t hurt other publishers to take note of the positive reception that each mini DLC pack has been receiving.
