Developer CD Projekt Red has shed light on a potential difficulty mode that may be included in the final build of upcoming RPG The Witcher III: Wild Hunt.
Entitled Insanity, the proposed tier certainly lives up to its rather foreboding moniker. Essentially, should the studio release it in May, the mode will wipe all of a player’s progress should they die once — permadeath, but for a sprawling, 100-hour long RPG. While nothing has been finalized as of yet, you’d have to imagine that Insanity will only be approached by the bravest of the brave.
CD Projekt Red teased the mode during a recent livestream on Twitch, where the studio showcased an all-new snippet of gameplay (which you can check out above). At 14 minutes in length, it’s an extensive look at the lush world that the Polish dev has painstakingly crafted, and despite the fact that Wild Hunt has been lumbered with a pair of delays, excitement for the trilogy-capper is still at a fever pitch.
We’ll keep you updated on the status of the potential Insanity mode as we learn more. Currently, it seems likely that the developer will shoehorn the excruciating mode into The Witcher III: Wild Hunt, considering that it bears semblance to the Insane and Dark difficulty skews found in its predecessor — without the crucial die-once-and-lose-everything caveat, mind you.
