Titanfall 2 Isn’t Likely To Deploy Until Late 2016

Respawn Entertainment may have been formed in majority by former Call of Duty devs -- most notable of which were Jason West and Vince Zampella -- but that doesn't mean that the studio is making plans to ape the first-person shooter by transforming its new IP into an annualized series. Respawn Entertainment may have been formed in majority by former Call of Duty devs – most notable of which were Jason West and Vince Zampella – but that doesn’t mean that the studio is making plans to ape the first-person shooter by transforming its new IP into an annualized series. As a matter of fact, publisher EA has no plans to release a Titanfall 2 until the latter stages of 2016 at the earliest.

That’s according to the company’s Chief Financial Officer, Blake Jorgensen, who warned fans that a sequel is still a ways away yet.

“In terms of Titanfall, you should expect that’s not in fiscal 16. It’s more likely in fiscal 17.”

Slating Titanfall 2 for a release in fiscal year 2017 would mean Respawn is engineering a follow-up to the mech shooter in time for late 2016. Either way, going off of Jorgensen’s comments, we should be see a direct sequel to the multiplayer-focused title before April, 2017.

That may seem like a long way off at this point, but it’s worth nothing that while Titanfall injected the FPS genre with a hoard of welcome changes – blistering gameplay, increased vertically and the titans themselves – Respawn’s maiden title was still imperfect in many departments. With an extended development window now at its disposal, we’re hoping that the developer can kick on from here and iterate on a lot of the core concepts buried beneath the original’s burly, metallic exterior.

What do you make of Jorgensen’s comments, though? Are you disappointed to learn that Titanfall 2 is still so far off? Let us know your thoughts down below.
