It’s official: the next Tony Hawk-branded video game will, indeed, be called Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5. Not only that, but it’s being developed with a keen eye on returning to what made the series popular in the first place. That means there won’t be any more motion-controlled peripherals or gimmicks, which is great news and a definite relief. That said, it has been noted that skaters will be able to shoot projectiles (for certain objectives) and use power-ups – two things that hopefully won’t ruin the gameplay.
The reveal today comes to us from Game Informer, who published a first look at Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 earlier this morning. Therein, it was confirmed that the game will be released this year on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, with last-gen (PS3 and Xbox 360) versions also planned for release sometime after that.
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 will not only feature new courses with objectives/goals that can be completed by one’s lonesome, but it will also allow for cooperative and competitive online play. Seamless online play, to be exact, as switching between the two will apparently be effortless. Furthermore, the game will allow for user created skateparks to be shared, which should create unlimited replay value.
Last, but not least, are the announced skaters. It’s a list that includes Andrew Reynolds, Chris Cole, David Gonzalez, Leticia Bufoni, Riley Hawk and, of course, Tony Hawk himself.
As someone who grew up with an addiction to the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater games, it goes without saying that this reveal has me incredibly excited. I simply cannot wait to get my hands on Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5, and hope that it’ll be available to demo at E3 2015.
