Despite previous comments from Total War: Warhammer developer Creative Assembly stating that the upcoming real-time strategy title wouldn’t have official mod support, the studio has U-turned on their decision and will now include the Assembly Kit and Steam Workshop integration on launch day thanks to strong fan demand.
In addition, copies of the game are being made available to certain modders early in an effort to have various unique mods be available on release. Players will be able to “upload, browse” and “install available mods straight from Steam” using the game’s Total War Mod Manager, which will work in tandem with the Assembly Kit, where you’ll be able to create your own mods.
See below for the full details:
Visit Steam Workshop: Upload, browse, follow, discuss and install available mods straight from Steam, and access and manage them from the new Total War Mod Manager.
Get the Assembly Kit: CA’s modding tool box will release with the Database Editor and BOB for modifying and exporting database tables and campaign start positions, with the aim to add further functionality, including battle map editing, later in the year.
Download Mods: Attendees to CA’s Mod Summits over the last three years will be supplied early access to the game, to help populate the Steam Workshop from day one. Also, well-known modders Magnar and Dresden will receive specific help from the dev team to produce certain mods. Magnar is designing a Legendary Lord Start Position Mod; customising start positions so that Legendary Lords will start in different locations from Race Leaders, while Dresden is engineering a Regional Occupation Mod; altering the settlement rules to enable each race to settle every region.
Creative Assembly has also released a screenshot of the system of the mods interface to give players an idea of the sorts of content they can create. Hyper-Buffed Grimgor? Yes please.
Total War: Warhammer releases for PC on May 24, a month later than originally planned. Look out for our review in the coming weeks.
