After unveiling Assassin’s Creed: Rogue just yesterday, Ubisoft has revealed that the last-gen only release will not include competitive multiplayer.
Today’s revealĀ falls in line with another recent statement from the company, in which it mentioned that current-gen’s Assassin’s Creed: Unity will also forego multiplayer. However, that game will at least offer four-player co-operative play within some of its missions, which will hopefully ease the sting felt by those who’ve loved stealthily stalking their friends in previous series iterations. After all, multiplayer has been a (relatively) big part of Assassin’s Creed since its introduction in 2010’s Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood.
I’m honestly unsure of what to think about this announcement and its predecessor as, despite being a single player-focused gamer, I’ve had some good times with Assassin’s Creed‘s multiplayer. That said, I would never rush out to buy one of the games just for its online play, and therefore, won’t miss it too much.
