One question that so often rears its head going into the launch of a HD re-release is how this new, prettier version stacks up to the original. Comparison screens are the go-to metric, but static visuals only offer so much. Thankfully, ahead of its bow on November 4, Eurogamer has unveiled an extended video that demonstrates the improvements Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered makes over its 2007 original.
For the sake of perspective, the two versions on display here are the Xbox 360 release of Modern Warfare and the enhanced PS4 version and almost immediately, you’ll be able to notice a tangible upgrade across lighting, texture detail, as well as the shooter’s physics.
It has all the makings of an enticing package for long-time fans of Activision’s juggernaut – or, better still, if you’ve never dabbled with Modern Warfare before – however, there is one caveat: you’ll need to pick up Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare to gain access to Infinity Ward’s re-release. Don’t expect to find the newest iteration lining the trade-in sections on the high street, either, as the company revealed yesterday that players must insert the actual disc of Infinite Warfare and activate MW Remastered via a live Internet connection, thus preventing early adopters picking up the bundle and slinging Infinite Warfare back to Gamestop.
Both Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and Modern Warfare Remastered are due to deploy on November 4 for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. They’ll be available via the premium Legacy Edition of Infinity Ward’s latest which will, purportedly, take up an eye-watering 130GB of space on your HDD.
