The fastest franchise in PlayStation history is coming back. During today’s PSX presentation it was revealed that WipEout Omega Collection will hit the PlayStation 4 in 2017.
Bringing together three different titles – WipEout HD, WipEout HD Fury and WipEout 2048 – Omega Collection is a celebration of the speedy series, delivering the mayhem and exhilaration of SCE Studio Liverpool’s franchise to the PS4 for the first time. All three titles included will sport 4K and HDR, as well as a targeted framerate of 60 fps.
With three different games included, WipEout Omega Collection features plenty of content for fans to delve into. Across all three games, there are more than 26 tracks and 46 unique ships, as well as 9 different modes. Zone, tournament, speed lap, time trial and single race are being pulled from HD, while zone battle, eliminator and detonator are included from Fury. 2048 only brings one mode to the table: the well-regarded career mode.
Besides being a visual showcase thanks to the beautiful remaster treatment, Omega Collection features a brand new soundtrack to race to. Franchise purists may scoff at this, but the new soundtrack will be a mix of old tunes and new tracks from up-and-coming musicians. It will be hard to top some of the artists brought in before, which included the likes of The Chemical Brothers and deadmau5, but hopefully this release can match up.
