Up until now, the marketing campaign for CD Projekt Red’s stunning The Witcher III: Wild Hunt has, understandably, revolved around one character and one character only: Geralt of Rivia.
As series protagonist and all-round badass, fans of the franchise had assumed that the third installment would once again place the Kaedwen-born superhuman front and center, but during this year’s Game Awards event, the studio confirmed that the threequel will include a second playable character. Cue the speculation.
Well, it turns out the Wild Hunt‘s other playable persona may not be mysterious after all, as her identity is alluded to in the game’s latest and indeed awe-inspiring trailer. Referred to by Geralt as Ciri, the white-haired woman is wanted for the nebulous “Elder Blood” coursing through her veins. How exactly this filters into the story of the trilogy-capper remains to be seen, though the fact that players will have the option to play as a different character is certainly a boost for an RPG said to contain over 100 hours of gameplay.
Take this conjecture with a grain of salt, though, as CD Projekt Red didn’t openly confirm who that second playable character will be, but we’ll surely learn more about their identity and the gorgeous vistas that await us in the coming months.
The Witcher III: Wild Hunt will make its long-awaited bow across PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on February 24, 2015. In the meantime, you can share your thoughts on the latest trailer in the comments section below.
