Originally announced back in June, Nintendo has revealed that Yoshi’s New Island will be coming to the 3DS in Spring 2014. President Satoru Iwata announced the release date while also showcasing a brief new trailer for the title.
The short video shows off some of the returning features that made Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island and Yoshi’s Island DS such beloved hits, like the colorful levels and egg-throwing fun. We also get to catch a glimpse of one of the new features inĀ Yoshi’s New Island, which is the ability to eat giant enemies in order to produce massive, level destroying eggs.
I want to be excited about Yoshi’s New Island, I really do. I was a huge fan of the original Super Nintendo title and the fact that series creator Takashi Tezuka is returning fills me with optimism. Every time I get my hopes up though, I remember the likes of Yoshi’s Story and Yoshi Topsy-Turvy and remember how easy it has been for the adventures of everyone’s favorite green (or multicolor if you’re really into that sort of thing) dinosaur to get screwed up. So for now, I’ll remain cautiously optimistic on this one.
We will continue to have coverage of Yoshi’s New Island in the lead-up to its Spring 2014 release date. Check out the (brief) trailer posted below and let us know what you think in the comments section.
