If you’re a fan of the Looney Tunes, then Space Jam: A New Legacy isn’t going to much for you, given that the roster of iconic cartoon characters are forced to play second fiddle to the CGI spectacle and cavalcade of cross-promotion that dominates almost every frame of a sequel that’s been 25 years in the making.
However, if you’re an HBO Max subscriber or a WarnerMedia shareholder, then chances are you’ll be pleased to know that nobody will be able to forget which studio was responsible for this weekend’s blockbuster. It becomes nauseating very quickly at how blatantly A New Legacy has been designed as an ad for WB’s roster of properties, and it paints a potentially terrifying picture of a future where big budget movies are engineered to sell audiences on even more content, rather than telling an actual story people can invest in.
Of course, it’s not all doom and gloom, with the second Space Jam offering a few highlights and surprise cameos that come out of nowhere. As you can see from the reactions below, one pair of unexpected guests in particular have captured the imagination of the internet, setting social media ablaze.
At least the irreverent multiversal adventures of Rick and Morty sort of make sense within the context of Space Jam: A New Legacy, which is largely predicated on LeBron James and Bugs Bunny visiting a number of different franchises in order to gather the rest of the Tune Squad and whip them into shape for a basketball game with the fate of both the real world and the ServerVerse at stake, even if the duo’s appearance was all too brief.
