10 Perfect Director/Comic Book Movie Pairings

People often forget how important directors are. When a blockbuster succeeds, the praise of the general public tends to fall on the actors or storyline. Outside of film critic circles, few mentioned director Jon Favreau when the first Iron Man movie took the world by storm, yet people couldn't stop talking about Robert Downey Jr.'s best performance in years.

3) Edgar Wright – Booster Gold/Blue Beetle

Although the end product turned out to be far far better than anyone dared hope, the Ant-Man debacle was still deeply disheartening for everyone involved. For those who are unaware, British filmmaker Edgar Wright was originally set to direct the adaptation of everyone’s favourite pint-sized hero after working for years and years on the film. Unfortunately, creative disputes led to Wright leaving the project. Peyton Reed did an admirable job with Ant-Man considering all of the drama behind the scenes, but Wright’s fans will always mourn what could have been.

Although Wright may have been put off superhero ventures for life, his unique trademark humour could work extremely well for Marvel’s competition. Rumours of a Booster Gold adaptation have circled the internet for some time, with some suggesting that DC may be considering a buddy comedy that teams the time traveler together with the Blue Beetle, a less well known Batman wannabe.

Neither character is particularly famous outside of comic book circles, but together, Booster Gold and Blue Beetle could charm audiences worldwide with their earnest attempts to become heroes in the same league as Superman and Batman.

Fan-favourite Nathan Fillion recently expressed interest in playing Booster Gold alongside his fellow Firefly star Alan Tudyk. With the kind of humour that made Shaun Of The Dead and Hot Fuzz huge hits for Wright, this trio could make the funniest superhero movie ever made. Admittedly, the competition is currently slim, discounting Batman & Robin of course, but a Booster Gold/Blue Beetle film could be the dark horse of comic book adaptations.
