TMNT (2007)
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have had a hard time at the movies. Probably their last biggest success was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze – and even that didn’t quite hit the sweet pizza spot. In 2007, a computer-animated film titled TMNT was released which acted as a direct sequel to the other movies before it. Despite the decent animation and great voice cast, however, it mustered a so-so reception from fans and critics.
It’s not hard to pinpoint the reason TMNT didn’t excite the masses, though: the lack of the Shredder. After 14 years, fans wanted another battle with old buckethead and perhaps even the presence of Krang. Unfortunately, the producers decided to go in a whole different direction.
That said, it isn’t hard to look at this film today and say it’s better than the last two Michael Bay-produced efforts. Although, I will defend the merits of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows to the death because of the sheer coolness of Bebop and Rocksteady.
