7) The Tall Guy
First, a bit of background: The Tall Guy is an under-appreciated romantic comedy from 1989, featuring Jeff Goldblum as the titular character Dexter King, a straight man in a comedy team that also includes Rowan Atkinson as the most self-centered comedian in the world. Dexter both gets a lead in an Andrew Lloyd Webber-esque musical version of The Elephant Man, and falls for a nurse named Kate (Emma Thompson), whom he meets after going to the doctor for a chronic case of hay fever. Following a rather odd courtship – these are two rather odd people in general – the pair finally get it together.
The Tall Guy, while a middling comedy worth it solely for the cast, features one of the most ridiculous and oddly joyful sex scenes in cinema. Dexter and Kate spend an afternoon together totally ripping up an apartment, knocking over furniture and fruit bowls, and having sex on pretty much every surface – including the piano, against family photographs, in the closet, and on a carton of milk. Some of the positions defy both anatomy and credulity, but this is a comedy after all. The scene is played for laughs, obviously, but unlike so many sex scenes in Hollywood it seems that everyone is having a really good time without it being at the expense of one character or the other. An added bonus is one of the few depictions of cunnilingus, culminating in Dexter getting an unfortunate attack of hay fever in the process. I dare you not to laugh.
