8) Introducing (The) Aquaman
Following on from the trailer’s opening scene, we switch back to the coast as Bruce Wayne introduces his first recruit, “Arthur Curry, the Aquaman.” We see the King of Atlantis deal with some (presumably ne’er-do-well) sailor and swipe some booze while he’s at it. “It’s on him,” he says as he storms out. Yeah, this is definitely not your dad’s Aquaman.
Continuing the connection between The White Stripes and Justice League, the scene is laid over with the opening few bars of “The Hardest Button to Button,” after the Comic-Con trailer was set to “Icky Thump.” The band’s music definitely fits Jason Mamoa’s rockstar superhero the best.
Bruce labelling him “the Aquaman” starts a trend in this trailer, as each of the superhero names mentioned get a pronoun attached to the front, perhaps to make them seem less comic book-y. Barry Allen later asks Bruce if he’s “the Batman” and Diana describes Victor as “a cyborg.”
