7) Batman vs. Superman
Yes, this year’s superhero smash-up between Henry Cavill’s Supes and Ben Affleck’s Bats is not the first version of the idea that Warner Bros. have considered. Back before Nolan’s Batman films had begun, DC were looking to restart the screen careers of their two big-hitters in one fell swoop.
Wolfgang Peterson was set to direct from a script by Andrew Kevin Walker and Akiva Goldsman. With some aspects that are strangely similar to what we know about the upcoming Batman V Superman, it would have seen a middle-aged Wayne donning the cowl once again to fight the Joker – who had killed Bruce’s bride-to-be. He would come into conflict with Superman when the Man of Steel is manipulated by Lex Luthor, who is revealed to be in league with the Joker.
The project got so far down the line that a poster of a proposed logo for the film briefly appears in zombie drama I Am Legend, a film also written by Goldsman.
