4) It Follows (March 15th)
Debuting way back in May 2014, It Follows shook Cannes Film Festival audiences to their very core, instigating whispers that this could be the best horror film of 2015.
David Robert Mitchell – who made his directorial bow back in 2011 with the largely well-received coming-of-age drama The Myth of the American Sleepover – received a whole bunch of appreciation and plaudits from those who caught the early screenings of It Follows, and if this effort is anything to go by, the director could in time find himself associated with some of the better horror filmmakers of recent years.
Maika Monroe hasn’t been on the acting scene too long, but she shines here as protagonist Jay – a teenage girl who has a sexual encounter that leads to terrifying visions and a sense that something is continuously lurking behind her. Gloriously inventive, stylishly shot and ultimately terrifying, It Follows is a wicked addition to the horror movie genre, and is sure to impress fans when it creeps up onto the big screen later this year.
Just in case you missed it; we reviewed It Follows back in September, and on March 15th, when Mitchell’s movie is dribbled into cinemas, you’ll get to see just what all the fuss is about.
