3) Crimson Peak (October 16th)
Any movie that has Guillermo del Toro in the driving seat is worth getting excited about. The Mexican filmmaker’s dark and twisted visions have been some of the most inimitably haunting sights in horror cinema over the past two decades, and the fact that del Toro has manned the camera as director just once since the Hellboy sequel in 2008 only adds to the excitement for Crimson Peak.
Despite having largely opted for the roles of creative consultant, writer and producer for more recent projects, del Toro has seen fit to direct this latest effort set in 19th Century England, also contributing to the script and production, and hiring an exciting cast that includes Jessica Chastain, Mia Wasikowska, Tom Hiddleston, and Charlie Hunnam.
Del Toro has labelled the film as a ghost story laced with gothic romance, and has expressed a desire to attempt to resurrect the sort of evil atmosphere that dominated classic haunted house movies of years gone by. With his vivid imagination and a curious premise to work with, Crimson Peak could potentially be one of the most terrifically chilling films of 2015.
