3) Ben Reilly
While The Clone Saga is widely considered one of the worst and most convoluted stories in comic book history, there’s a lot in there which could work well in this new Spider-Man franchise.
When The Jackal successfully cloned Peter Parker, Spider-Man came face to face with himself, but assumed that his doppelgänger had been killed when an explosion went off moments later. Instead, the clone fled and started a new life as Ben Reilly, only to return years later when it was revealed that he was actually the real Spider-Man (he wasn’t; it was all just part of Norman Osborn’s plan to mess with Peter – see what I meant by “convoluted”?).
It was during that period that he took over as the new Spidey, donning a costume loved by fans and attempting to forge a new life after years earlier having to say goodbye to everyone he cared about. Honestly, Ben’s big screen’s debut is long overdue at this point and Marvel could really do a lot with this.
