8) Batman Begins: Calling Card
There’s nothing particularly special about this scene in the way it’s filmed, acted, or executed, but it’s just such a chilling moment that I’d be remiss not to include it here.
As Gordon and Batman talk on the rooftop, the commissioner fills our hero in on a new villain in town who leaves a calling card. We then see said calling card and realize that it’s a Joker playing card. Cue fanboys in theatres everywhere losing their collective minds, and an excruciating 3 year wait.
Seriously, has there ever been a bigger tease in comic book movie history? Have you ever seen a final scene so chilling and tantalizing? When Gordon hands Batman the Joker card, I felt the hairs on my neck rise. It really is the perfect sequel set-up.
Nolan gives us the smallest hint at what to expect, as all we see is a single playing card, but we already know what’s in store for us. And that only made the wait for The Dark Knight that much more difficult.
