3) What Has Diana Been Doing For The Past Century?
When we first met Diana Prince in Batman V Superman, it seemed that she’d been retired from active superhero duty for a while. Specifically, since her role in World War I, as discovered by Lex Luthor and later Bruce Wayne. In Wonder Woman, we finally find out the explanation for why she’s taken a step back into the shadows. Although she’s defeated Ares, Diana’s lost Steve Trevor and now understands that humanity is capable of darkness on their own. No doubt with the many wars that happened through the 20th century, her faith in humanity wavered somewhat.
But has Diana actually been operating as Wonder Woman (a name you might notice that she never goes by in the movie) over this time? It’s possible. At the end of the film, the way that the scene sees her suiting up and jumping into action suggests that she’s leading the classic double life of a superhero. But if that’s the case, then why does the world at large not know who she is? Diana must have been defending mankind in a much lower key way than she did back in World War I.
However, the more jaded, retired hero introduced in BvS doesn’t quite gel with the hopeful hero of Wonder Woman, so perhaps there’s another dark day for her to come in a future film.
